I DID IT I DID IT I MET LEIGH BARDUGO AND DIDN’T EMBARRASS MYSELF COMPLETELY WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!
OK so my sister (hi Belle!) and I went to Leigh’s King of Scars event at Kepler’s Books on Tuesday night and it was so much fun! It was my first author signing EVER and I’m super happy with how it went! Here’s a recap of everything that happened!
6 pm | Fan Meet-Up
I got my copy of King of Scars and then got a little goodie bag that had some Grishaverse Trivia, an awesome Grisha passport, a KoS crown headband and a quiz to determine what kind of Grisha you are! Once the quiz was filled out, I was able to get a pin matching the Grisha order I got (Materealki) and I also got to stamp my passport with a KoS stamp. Then I took a little polaroid picture for my passport in front of the Grisha backdrop they had!
7 pm | Q & A
Then at 7, Leigh arrived! I gasped really loud when I saw her and scared my sister, haha. Leigh picked people from the audience to ask questions and also picked some questions out of a bowl. Here were some of my favorite answers:
-Leigh said she would love to write a 3rd Six of Crows book! YAAAAAAAY! But only after she finished the second KoS and the two books for Ninth House.
-A lot of questions were asked about the Netflix adaptation:
—Would she want to do a cameo? Yes! Her dream cameo would be to run on and die horribly, like screaming “THEY’RE COMING!!!!” with blood everywhere, LOL. She said the likely cameo she’d get is “Party-Goer #122”
—She doesn’t really know anything about the casting process. The writers had their first meeting a few days ago, but she does think that it’s unlikely that the show would shoot in the US.
—Someone asked what the format of the show would be like in terms of storylines and she said that she feels confident in the changes they’re making, but that the fundamentals of the plot and characters will be the same. She said if there’s enough seasons we should get most of the storylines that we’re familiar with from the books!
-Leigh was asked what her favorite way to kill off characters was and she jokingly answered, “WITH KNIVES!!” But then said she thinks it’s more interesting to take away the things that her characters think define them.
-About Ninth House: her first adult novel! It’s about murder and dark magic among secret societies at Yale and it comes out October 1! Super excited!
-Ketterdam was largely inspired by the Dutch Republic of the 1700s!
-She was asked how she writes a good heist! She said that when she was plotting out the Ice Court heist, she put events on a random day in Google Calendar in fifteen minute intervals. And then one day she kept getting a bunch of notifications like “Wylan and Jesper are on the roof!” HAHA
7:35 | Signing
After the Q & A, Leigh did a book signing! She personalized one book and would sign up to two other items. I got my KoS personalized and I also got my Crooked Kingdom and collector’s edition of SOC signed. My sister got my regular SOC copy signed for me 🙂 When we finally made it up to Leigh, she was super nice! She asked how my sister and I were related and who read the books first (me). Then I worked up the courage and told her that “if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you” ruined my life HAHA! Actually said those words and my sister and I were both shocked that I didn’t mess it up lol. Leigh laughed and said that she was kinda delighted about that! And that she was “sorry it ruined your life, but I’m also not really sorry!” Then we took a picture and I got a cookie and I was very very happy.
Overall, I had a really great time! I’m glad that Leigh was my first author event because she made it so fun and she was so nice! 🙂 Thanks again to my sister for accompanying me and who I’m now gonna force to read the Shadow & Bone trilogy, muahaha. Nowwwww, we wait for more Netflix news and the release of Ninth House! Yay!
