We’re a quarter of the way through the year, so I thought I’d reflect on the past few months and see what my favorites are! I’ll be making a definitive list at the end of the year, but I think it will be helpful if I continue to update as I read more and it’ll be interesting to see how this list changes.
So far this year, I’ve read 29 books (my goal is 85) and Goodreads says I’m ahead of schedule, yay! I re-read Percy Jackson last month, but I didn’t include those books on my list since I had read them before!
Here are my top books so far:
1 The Winter of the Witch
I can already tell you right now that this book will be on my year-end favorite list. Not only that, but it is now one of my favorite books of all time. I’m hoping to get even further ahead of my reading challenge and finish early so I get a chance to re-read this one. It was such a perfect finale to a beautiful series and I absolutely ADORE Vasya. She’s now one of my favorite characters ever! If you haven’t gotten the chance to check out the Winternight Trilogy yet, PLEASE do yourself a favor and go right this instant.
2 The Wicked King
I’m already stressing the F out about Queen of Nothing and we still have 8 months to go before it comes out. There’s SO much that needs to happen in that book and I’m worried. But there were so many twists and turns in this book and I read it all in like 5 hours the night of release, which is probably what will happen with QoN, too. I guess I need to try to re-read this one too before January… ahh.
3 Illuminae
I got this audiobook recommended to me and I’m SO glad. It’s one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to and it had my nerves ON EDGE. The cast is soooo good and it’s such a cool format. I still haven’t gotten the chance to finish the series with Obsidio yet, but I’m hoping to listen to that after I finish Archenemies.
4 The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein
I LOVED this one. Retellings are one of my favorite genres and even though I hadn’t read Frankenstein before this, it was still SO interesting and I absolutely loved the spin that Kiersten White put on the original story. Elizabeth Lavenza is ICONIC and I am in love with her.
What are your top books of the year so far? Did any of mine make your list? Let me know in the comments 😀
The Winter of the Witch is my favorite book so far this year too. It was such a perfect conclusion to a wonderful series and I can’t wait to reread it 😊

Ahhh omg I literally want to read all of these! 😍 I’m so glad you love them, and I hope I do as well when I finally get to them😊 I’ve sucked so bad at reading this year cuz I’ve basically been in a slump since January? Ughhhh 😫 But I read Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare earlier this year, and was obviously obsessed, because I’m Cassandra Clare trash. I also read Heartstopper by Alice Oseman a while back and my heart actually exploded from how cute it was. And I then proceeded to be emotionally DESTROYED by Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor ♥️ So those are probably my faves of this year so far 🥰

Ah I’m sorry to hear you’ve been in a slump but it also sounds like you’ve found some great books this year too! I have Muse of Nightmares on my TBR and I’m hoping to get to it soon! 🙂

I loved Illuminae! I read it like two years ago and I still have to get through the rest of the series. I hear wonders about the audiobook so I’ll definitely have to give those a try!

YES the audiobooks are sooo good! I’ve since seen pics of the actual book and you miss out on a few diagrams and stuff but if you’ve already read it before I’d definitely recommend you try the audio too!
