HP Re-read | Half-Blood Prince + Top 7 Magical Objects

Merry Christmas Eve! I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday. I’ve been super sick for the past few days, so I’ve been a bit miserable, but I’m getting better now so I hope I’ll be able to enjoy my next two days off! I finished Half-Blood Prince last night and I’m gonna try my hardest to finish Deathly Hallows before the end of the year, but it’s looking pretty unlikely at the moment.

I have two more weeks of work and then I’m planning to take two months off! I think that will be a great time to do a bit of a reset on my blog and finally, FINALLY get back to putting regular posts and reviews up again! So I’m saving my top books of 2019, HP wrap-up and December wrap-up for January. For now, here’s some thoughts on Half-Blood Prince and my Top 7 Magical Objects!

I’ve always loved HBP but it was even better this time around because I finally love Harry and Ginny! As of right now, I bumped Order into my #1 book slot (gasp!), putting Prisoner of Azkaban at number 2 and HBP at 3! I think that will be my top three, though I might change my mind again about the order. My cry tally for this book was 12, still less than OotP, but also still quite a lot, haha. THE LAST FOUR CHAPTERS OF THIS BOOK ARE TOUGH, OK?!?!

This is just such a cool object! Imagine being able to relive your memories and being able to see the entire perspective of it! Such a great way for Harry and Dumbledore to delve into Voldemort’s past and it brings Harry so much clarity throughout the series.

Resurrection Ring Snitch

This might be my favorite item. I just love the significance of the snitch, I open at the close, that the ring is hidden inside it, that Harry figures out that the ring is there so early, and that it brings Harry the strength to walk into the forest and see his parents, Sirius and Lupin. I have this snitch tattooed on me with Harry’s “stay close to me” quote becasue I just love everything about it.

Time Turner

I’d love to be able to go back and change something I just did so I don’t have to obsess and overthink it, haha. I’d probably abuse this power so maybe it’s best that it doesn’t exist. It’s a great tool for PoA though.

Weasley Clock

I want this clock just for my cat so I can be at work and know what she’s doing. It would just have ‘sleeping’ and ‘eating’ and other cat things but it’d be nice to know that she wasn’t in mortal peril while I’m away.

Marauder’s Map

Duh! This map helps Harry soooo much throughout the series, and it’s so cool that the Marauders were able to create this! Such a useful item.

Hermione’s Bag

Hermione thinks of everything, and this bag was a saving grace during Deathly Hallows. I recently just got the LitJoy Magical Edition 7.1 box and it had a replica of this bag in it, which is so cool! Wish it had the Extension charm!

The Invisibility Cloak

This cloak has helped the trio and the Marauders get up to so much mischief in Hogwarts, and it’s been invaluable to Harry. Plus it’s a frickin’ Deathly Hallow!!

Here are my top five chapters from Half-Blood Prince! I just realized that all of my favorite chapters from this book are HEAVY Harry-Dumbledore chapters, which is the way it’s supposed to be. 🙂

1 Horcruxes
UGH WHAT A CHAPTER. Harry gets Slughorn’s memory and he and Dumbledore get to view it in its entirety, Harry (and Dumbledore) get full clarity about the extent of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, Dumbledore says Harry can come with him to destroy the next one he finds, PLUS… the last four pages of this chapter are probably some of my favorites of the entire series. It always makes me cry. Harry’s realization of what lies ahead that I won’t even try to paraphrase:
“But he understood at last what Dumbledore had been trying to tell him. It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew — and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents — that there was all the difference in the world.”

2 The Cave
GOOD GOD. I mean, it’s THE CAVE. I can’t even go into detail about this chapter without crying, but this chapter’s ending is one of the quotes that instantly, no fail makes me frickin’ SOB. I mean, the entire last 2 pages wreck me, but this is absolutely GUTTING:
“It’s going to be all right, sir,” Harry said over and over again, more worried by Dumbledore’s silence than he had been by his weakened voice. “We’re nearly there… I can Apparate us both back… Don’t worry…”
“I am not worried, Harry,” said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. “I am with you.”

3 Will and Won’t

4 Horace Slughorn

5 Lord Voldemort’s Request

Fave chapter art (could it have been anything else?!) Also sidenote, but I think HBP is my favorite book cover of the series!
