Love Scene Take Two

Teddy Sharpe is kind of famous. He might actually be on his way to being really famous, especially if he’d nailed an audition for the lead role in the movie adaption of the newest bestselling young adult book series. There’s just one problem: He totally blew the audition. And he’s stuck in a tiny North Carolina airport. And his maybe-ex-girlfriend kind of just broke up with him.
The weekend isn’t exactly looking good until Bennett Caldwell, author of the very book series he just auditioned for, takes pity on him and invites him to her family’s lake house. Away from the glitz and glam of Hollywood for a few days, Teddy starts to relax . . . and somehow he and Bennett just click. But dating is hard enough when you aren’t the subject of several dozen fanblogs, and the Internet is full of juicy gossip about Teddy and Bennett . . . gossip that Bennett might not be prepared to handle. This review is spoiler-freeeee! 🙂
THIS WAS SUCH A DELIGHTFUL BOOK! I knew that I wanted to fit this into my February TBR because I wanted to read some romances and I’d had this sitting on my shelf for awhile. Then after the frustration of reading Clockwork Prince, I wanted something light so I started this almost immediately after… and finished it like 4 hours later! IT WAS SO GOOD.
The writing is soooo frickin’ funny. I was cackling like a crazy person and could NOT stop grinning for like the entire first half of the book. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was from Teddy’s POV– I feel like it’s been a long time (if ever) that I’ve read a romcom from the male perspective! I thought he was absolutely hilarious. So I was a bit bummed when we switched to Bennett’s POV midway through the book. Not that I didn’t like her or her POV, but I thought Teddy was really fun! Still, I understand the choice and I was suuuper happy to see Teddy’s POV return for the epilogue!
I really enjoyed the premise of this. I’m a sucker for tropes like this and I loved both Teddy and Bennett. Their romance was super cute and was totally rooting for them the entire book. I thought the plot was paced really well and I was having a grand ol’ time. I was so invested in this that the only quote I managed to write down was Teddy saying “I’ll break a bitch in half” because I literally guffawed out loud and had to put the book down for a minute because it might’ve been the funniest thing I’ve read in a piece of fiction. INCREDIBLE WORK BY ALEX EVANSLEY. Also, the side characters in this are awesome! I adooooored Olivia and Emmy and loved that there wasn’t any girl-fighting, especially between Olivia and Bennett. I thought their friendship was really great and I loved how supportive they all were of each other. Plus, I also loved Will and Rita and Tanner!
Overall, I really loved this! There were a couple small things– I probably could’ve done without at least one of Teddy and Bennett’s fights, since it seemed that they barely had like, 2 minutes of peace before something else happened that drove them apart again. Also, there were a few things in the plot that seemed unrealistic, but it’s a frickin’ rom-com so I’m totally able to overlook it. So even with those teeny details, I had so much fun reading this and it definitely merits my second 5 star of the year! Woohoo! *whale emoji whale emoji whale emoji* 🙂
