These reviews are spoiler-freeeee! 🙂
More and more reviews!!! I’m really proud of how much reading I’ve gotten done in the past few days! Call me butter because I am on a roll. I read each of these books in a matter of hours because they’re all super short and sweet reads, so I figured I’d bunch them together! Also, this has the trifecta of book formats: physical, ebook AND audio!
Tunnel of Bones
Author Victoria Schwab
Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake . . . even more than usual.
She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob, of course) are in Paris, where Cass’s parents are filming their TV show about the world’s most haunted cities. Sure, it’s fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there’s true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs.
When Cass accidentally awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter — and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger. And if Cass fails, the force she’s unleashed could haunt the city forever. (from Goodreads)
FINALLY. I didn’t realize that this book came out in September and that it’s taken me this long to read a Schwab book after it’s release. I REALLY enjoyed this one! More of a 4.5 rating, to be honest. I feel like I enjoyed it more than the first, even though I rated both 4 stars. This one was super creepy (I even had to stop reading it last night because I was getting scared and it was nighttime haha) and also really cute! I really love Cassidy and her lil’ troop of ghost hunters. I love that she keeps making a new friend in each of the places she visits, because both Lara and Adele are super sweet. I’m really excited to see where the next book takes us, especially in regards to Jacob!
Get A Life, Chloe Brown
Author Talia Hibbert
Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
• Enjoy a drunken night out.
• Ride a motorcycle.
• Go camping.
• Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
• Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
• And… do something bad.
Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior… (from Goodreads)
I came across a Twitter thread a couple months ago of great contemporary romances and this popped up on the list a LOT, so that’s when I added it. It finally came through on my library holds this week, so I figured I’d give it a go. It wasn’t my favorite, but it did have it’s moments. I liked Chloe a lot and it was great to see the representation for chronic pain, which I thought was handled really well. I wasn’t a huge fan of the smut in this, so that played a big part in me not liking it as much. But still, the romance was cute!
The Upside of Falling
Author Alex Light
It’s been years since seventeen-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone.
Brett Wells has it all. Being captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom. When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be her mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not dating and she can keep up the ruse.
Acting like the perfect couple isn’t easy though, especially when you barely know the other person. But with Becca still picking up the pieces from when her world was blown apart years ago and Brett just barely holding his together now, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined. When the line between real and pretend begins to blur, they are forced to answer the question: is this fake romance the realest thing in either of their lives? (from Goodreads)
My first audiobook in awhile! I thought I’d take advantage of the free books currently on Scribd. THOUGH, I will say that I was super annoyed because the audiobook I had kept randomly skipping ahead, so I had to keep the ebook close by so I could quickly catch up and then resume the audio. Bleh. ANYWAY, this was so cute! FAKE DATING, YES PLEASE! This was definitely on the cheesy side but it was also funny and it made me smile and what else can you really ask for from a book like this?
